Four individuals have been arrested in connection with a bomb blast that killed a 10-year-old girl in Kaliganj, Nadia district, on the day of the Assembly bypoll counting. The incident took place on Monday during a political rally following early trends indicating the Trinamool Congress’s lead. The deceased, identified as Tamanna Khatun, was reportedly caught in the explosion caused by a “socket bomb.”
According to Krishnanagar Police District, the arrested individuals have been identified as Adar Sheikh, Manowar Sheikh, Kalu Sheikh, and Anwar Sheikh. The police stated in an official post on Tuesday morning that cases have been registered against them under several legal provisions, and further investigation is ongoing. Authorities have confirmed that strict legal action will be taken against the accused.
The blast reportedly occurred when a victory procession was being held in support of the winning candidate in the Kaliganj bypoll. During the procession, bombs were allegedly hurled toward the homes of CPM supporters. One of the explosives detonated near a house, resulting in the death of the minor. Security in the area has been tightened, and police teams are continuing forensic collection and inquiry.
